The Classrooms page
This is the first step inside a project. Here you build the school's structure in three levels: levels (like “Elementary”), grades within each level (like “1st”), and classrooms within each grade (like “A”).
Quick start
- Click New Level and name it (for example, “Elementary”).
- Expand the level and add grades (for example, “1st”, “2nd”).
- Add classrooms to each grade (for example, “A”, “B”).
Levels, grades & classrooms
The school is built in three nested layers:
- Levels — the broad stages of your school, such as Elementary, Middle, or Pre-Kinder / Daycare.
- Grades live inside a level — for example 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
- Classrooms live inside a grade — for example A, B, C.
At the top of the page a running count shows your totals, like 0 Levels • 0 Grades • 0 Classrooms. When the page is empty you'll see the prompt Click "Add Level" to get started.
Adding a level
Start by creating the broad stages of your school. Add as many levels as you need.
- Click New Level at the top of the page.
- In the Add a level dialog — Enter the level name and click Accept to add it — type a name in the Name field (for example, "Elementary").
- Click Add, or Cancel to back out.
Level names must be 5–20 characters and unique. The new level appears as a card you can fill with grades.
The level card at a glance
Each level is a card. The header shows everything about it and lets you open it up to work inside.
- The level name — click it to rename.
- Two counts: how many Grades and how many Classrooms the level has in total.
- A trash icon to delete the whole level.
- A chevron to expand or collapse the card. When expanded it reveals Grades in this level and the Add Grade button.
Adding grades to a level
Once a level exists, fill it with the grades it contains.
- Expand the level card so its contents show.
- Under Grades in this level, click Add Grade.
- In the Add a grade dialog — Enter the grade name and click Accept to add it — type the grade's name (for example, "1st") in the Name field.
- Click Add. Repeat for each grade.
Grade names must be 1–8 characters and unique within their level.
Adding classrooms to a grade
Each grade can have one or more classrooms — for example, two sections of 1st grade called "A" and "B".
- Find the grade row inside the expanded level.
- Click Add Classroom on that grade.
- In the Add a classroom dialog — Enter the classroom name and click Accept to add it — type a short name (for example, "A") in the Name field.
- Click Add. Each grade row shows its classroom count.
Classroom names must be 1–3 characters and unique within their grade.
Renaming anything
Levels, grades, and classrooms are all renamed the same easy way — right where they sit.
- Click the name you want to change.
- Type the new name.
- Press Enter to save, or Escape to cancel.
Deleting levels, grades & classrooms
Each item has a trash icon. Deleting always asks you to confirm first.
- Click the trash icon next to the level, grade, or classroom.
- Confirm when asked — Are you sure you want to delete …? This action cannot be undone.
Deletes cascade: removing a level also removes all of its grades and classrooms, and removing a grade removes all of its classrooms. Deleting a classroom removes only that classroom.
Naming rules
If a name is rejected, it's usually one of these limits. Names must also be unique among their siblings.
- Level
- 5–20 characters · unique across the school.
- Grade
- 1–8 characters · unique within its level.
- Classroom
- 1–3 characters · unique within its grade.
Warnings you may see here
When something on this page needs attention, a warning triangle appears next to Classrooms in the navigation bar; hover it to see the details (how the triangles work is explained in The warning triangles on the Summary page). The warnings this page can raise:
No Classrooms Critical
With no classrooms there is nothing to schedule, so the rest of the app stays locked. Create a level, add a grade to it, and add at least one classroom to that grade.
Grade without Classrooms
Every grade needs at least one classroom to receive a schedule. Add one with Add Classroom on that grade's row, or delete the grade if it shouldn't exist. Solving stays disabled while a grade has no classrooms.
Level without Grades
An empty level does no harm, but it usually means unfinished setup. Expand the level and add its grades with Add Grade, or delete the level.
